So it's been really good since spring break has started. After exams I went into a deep coma, and woke up a headed home. The next day I had a race in the desert. It was a bit disastrous but none the less it was amazing. Initially I was supposed to run a 3 man 1/2 marathon relay but my team dropped out so I signed up for a 10k. Like usual I was running around and not paying attention which resulted in a late start, well not so much late but rather unstretch, unwarmed, up, un-everything! The whistle blew and my friend and I started running and immediately we were in front of the pack. It was kind of strange being so far ahead, but I know it was a mistake when we past that first mile mark at 6:35! She was running the relay so that was good, but I still have 5 more miles to go. The second and part of the third mile came and went without any hesitation. By the third mile I saw a sign that said 10K turn around, so I went to turn around but the woman standing there told me to keep going! I was just confused colleen!
Trying to fundraise. |
I asked three times in the midst of running by and she continued to insist it was the right way. Determined to win and break my last time I kept going. Then I saw the second leg station I was getting really worried because we were no where near where the start was. So i kept going, 4 and 5 went by. I saw the 6 mile mark with ballon so I ran as hard as I could full stride billy mills style, but when I got to the end and thought I was the winner, I found out the only thing I won were rights to a Totsie roll and a pack of salt. Apparently the nonsensical woman at the sign was wrong and put me on the marathon track! REALLY REALLY? The guys at the station said "your doing great look what place your in, there are only 5 runners ahead of you!" I don't think he understood how exhausted I was, but because it was in the middle of the desert I had to keep going, at least until I could find life again. I felt like Chevy Chase in National Lampoo's Vacation! I finally made it to the next stop, the whole way thinking of ways to give that woman a piece of my mind. Thankfully I never saw her again and after 10 miles I got a ride back. But officially my time was the fastest but they are still debating if I am the winner... I'll let you know how it goes.
Later on I also had a chance to hang out with some old/new friends, which was fun. We played basketball and danced a bit. It was interesting because I rarely get a chance to let my hair down and enjoy my time. Usually my head is in a book or glued to my notes. It was super fun, it was a night of scheming, revenge, trickery, embarrassment, denial, and smelly couches... it was a night of AWESOME-NESS. The next day I went to the PBR and drooled all over cowboys!
My nephew with 4 of the Brazilians. I would let them hold me like that. |
My dad always says that if I were a guy I would have been an amazing athlete, probably would have continued to play basketball in college, or would have been a professional bull rider. Makes me wonder sometimes, now I'm just a scientist that has to clean homes for a living and just drool over the professional athletes... amazing what the difference of 1 chromosome. But enough about genes my Biochem of Nucleic Acids exam is over! Well its been only day 2 of Spring Break, I'll keep you all informed of what's happening next.
Amusing thought:
I sometimes have the mindset of both Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

Well one more thing. To add to the merriment of the break thus, here is the trailer for:
Sound track of
Submarine
The EP produced by Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys!
I absolutely am inthralled by his talents as a musician.
Also
Adele
Rolling in the Deep
Her voice amazes me, if I could have anyone in the world's voice it would be hers.
