"Exam These Scribbles..."

Get a glimpse into my mind.  These are a few examples of things that I think about during an average day.

"Oh the songs! Indian blues bellowed at the highest volume. We called them "49s," those cross-cultural songs that combined Indian Lyrics and rhythms with country-and-western and blues melodies. It seemed that every Indian knew all the lyrics to every Hank Williams song ever recorded. Hank was our Jesus, Pasty Cline was our Virgin Mary, and Freddy Fender, George Jones, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Charley Pride, Ronnie Milsap, Tanya Tucker, Marty Robbins, Johnny Horton, Donna Fargo, and Charlie Rich were our disciples."

Today someone asked me how I knew so much about "old" country music.

Seymour looked around the local McDonald's. He saw an Indian woman arguing with an Indian Man. They spoke in some strange language. What's that they are talking? Navajo, I think, said Salmon Boy. He's always believe the Navajo were the most beautiful people on the planet. The man and woman arguing by the window were no exception. Their hair and skin were so dark that they looked purple, especially in the white light streaming through the glass.

"For being a foreigner[...] is a sort of lifelong pregnancy--a perpetual wait, a constant burden, a continuous feeling out of sorts. It is an ongoing responsibility, a parenthesis in what had been ordinary life, only to discover that that previous life has vanished, replaced by something more complicated and demanding. Like pregnancy, being a foreigner [...] is something that elicits the same curiosity from strangers, the same combination of pity and respect."

I'm not Hispanic.  I'm not Asian.  But it seems I'm still foreigner.  -- Generalizations that happened at a rather popular store.

I changed up my music today!
Listen to Bruno Mars' Album Doo-Wops and Hooligans.
Lost in Brooklyn is on my new playlist.

The other day I was listening to Del Shannon's Runaway, a favorite song of mine, and was wondering why no one ever does a cool cover to it... and within that same day I came across this.  It was meant to be:).
